Hanmi Semiconductor Chairman Says AI Equipment Supply Shortage Expected, Plans Eighth Factory

Hanmi Semiconductor is considering building its eighth production facility, which would become the company's largest campus, as it anticipates a supply shortage of AI semiconductor equipment starting next year. According to Odaily, the decision follows an interview with Hanmi Semiconductor Chairman Kwak Dong-shin by South Korea's Maeil Business Newspaper. Kwak expects demand for semiconductor equipment to exceed supply from next year. The planned eighth factory will be located adjacent to the seventh factory currently under construction in Incheon. Hanmi Semiconductor stated that as global chipmakers expand investment, market demand for its thermocompression bonders and hybrid bonders will grow rapidly. The company plans to establish a U.S. subsidiary, Hanmi America, in San Jose, California by the end of 2026 to strengthen technical support services.
