According to CNBC, a federal judge on Tuesday blocked the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts board from inscribing President Donald Trump's name on the center's main building and from naming the campus after him. U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper said the board cannot install memorials for Trump or anyone else at the Kennedy Center without Congress's approval, after the board renewed its push to place Trump's name on official markers despite an earlier ruling that it could not add him to the center's official name. The board had approved an Aug. 13 resolution to honor Trump's future contributions to the center and planned to add an inscription reading, "The John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts," with the words "renovated and restored by President Donald J. Trump" underneath, as well as rename the grounds "The President Donald J. Trump Plaza." Both actions had been set for Sept. 8 before the board extended the deadline to Oct. 8. The Department of Justice argued that blocking the moves could deter donors and leave the center short of funds for renovations.
