Solana Account Rent Reduction Proposal SIMD-0437 Enters Phase Two on Mainnet Beta

Anza said the second phase of Solana account rent reduction proposal SIMD-0437 has gone live on mainnet beta. According to ChainCatcher, in epoch 1033, the per-byte parameter used to calculate the minimum rent-exempt balance for accounts was cut from 6,333 lamports to 5,080 lamports, bringing the cumulative decline from the initial level to about 27% and lowering the SOL balance required to keep accounts rent-exempt. Anza also outlined how excess SOL can be recovered. Users with the relevant permissions can use the WithdrawExcessLamports instruction to withdraw SOL above the rent-exempt minimum from token accounts, token mint accounts, and similar accounts without closing them or affecting token balances. The company said later phases do not have a fixed launch schedule, and phase three will only activate after on-chain state growth is confirmed to remain within a safe range. If needed, the change can be reversed through SIMD-0438.
