According to CNBC, OpenAI said on Wednesday that it identified six instances of "unexpected or concerning model behavior" over the past six months, excluding the recent Hugging Face crisis, and outlined a new framework for reporting future model misbehavior. The company said it wants stronger safety protections as pressure builds on AI developers to take model misalignment and safety more seriously. OpenAI confidentially filed for an IPO earlier this year, but said recently that an offering will not happen until 2027. In a blog post, the company said it does not believe the AI industry has solved alignment and monitoring well enough to keep scaling at maximum speed for much longer. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman also endorsed a call on Saturday to slow the pace of model progress, a proposal put forward by Anthropic, and said on X that the issue has been a primary topic of discussion at OpenAI in recent weeks.
