CertiK Reports 52 Verified Wrench Attacks in First Half of 2026

CertiK released its first-half 2026 wrench attack report on July 22. According to Odaily, the report said 52 publicly verified wrench attacks were recorded globally in the first half of 2026, up 33.3% year over year, with losses of about $124 million, roughly 11.8 times higher than a year earlier. The report said attackers are shifting from exploiting technical vulnerabilities to targeting asset holders and their real-world networks. It noted that home invasion cases rose to 20 from one in the first half of 2025, accounting for 41% of the period's incidents, and said Europe was the most affected region, with France accounting for 33 cases, or 63.5% of the global total. CertiK said companies and high-value individuals need broader protection as real-world risks become a major digital asset security challenge. It said it has launched operational security services to identify exposure risks related to identities, families, homes, and travel patterns, and that its CertiK Security Workspace links off-chain intelligence, on-chain transactions, and AML risk signals. The company also said it is working with international law enforcement agencies, including Interpol and Europol, to support cross-border attack investigations and security policy research.
