About GRIN

Grin is a minimalistic, lightweight cryptocurrency, implementing the Mimblewimble protocol for a unique balance of privacy and scalability. The chain has no addresses, no amounts, and no need to store data of spent outputs.Grin is fully open-source and community-driven. There is no single entity behind it, Grin’s development is funded by donations as well as done voluntarily by contributors. Everybody can discuss, influence, or work on its development.Grin’s blocktime is 1 minute, each with a coinbase reward of 60 grins, thus creating 1 unit per second, forever. This linear emission creates a constant increase in supply, but a decreasing rate of inflation; making the emission disinflationary. This simple design serves to ensure both the long term security of the chain and a fair process of coin distribution to all participants. In Aug 2016, an anonymous person using the nickname ‘majorplayer’, signed onto a Bitcoin research IRC channel, dropped a link to a document, then signed out. The document titled ‘Mimblewimble’ was authored under the pseudonym Tom Elvis Jedusor. Several developers took an interest, one of them being Andrew Poelstra, who later published a paper which added several refinements and a detailed technical description of the original whitepaper. In Oct 2016, a developer under the pseudonym Ignotus Peverell began work on developing an implementation of the protocol and was soon joined by others in an effort to build the project which ultimately came to be known as Grin. It was launched on January 15th, 2019.

PRECIOUS METALS | Goldman Sachs: Speculative Funds Pull $19.5 Billion From Gold in Five Weeks as Selling Pressure Persists
PRECIOUS METALS | Goldman Sachs: Speculative Funds Pull $19.5 Billion From Gold in Five Weeks as Selling Pressure Persists
On November 8, Goldman Sachs said persistent speculative outflows were a major reason for the recent sharp decline in international gold prices. According to Sina Finance, Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) positioning data showed that managed funds, other traders, and non-reportable traders collectively cut about $8 billion in gold positions from October 20 to 27, marking a fifth consecutive week of net outflows. Since September 22, cumulative speculative outflows from the gold market have reached $19.5 billion. Of the $8 billion outflow from October 20 to 27, about $5.2 billion came from long liquidations and $2.8 billion from new short positions. Other traders and non-reportable traders accounted for about 95% of the outflow. Long-position reductions by the other-trader category alone totaled $4 billion, making nontraditional investors the main force behind the selling, Goldman Sachs said. Goldman Sachs said large-scale speculative selling explained why gold failed to benefit from falling real interest rates. From October 20 to 27, the U.S. 10-year real Treasury yield fell 11 basis points, which would typically support gold, a non-yielding asset, but gold prices declined 1.6% over the same period. The U.S. dollar index rose 0.6% and Brent crude gained 4.1%, adding to the downward pressure on gold. Analysts said concerns about sovereign liquidity management and a strong dollar may have prompted some investors to exit gold positions. Selling pressure may not have fully run its course. Although managed funds’ net positions were relatively low, as of October 27, other traders’ long gold positions remained above the median of the past two years both in nominal value and as a share of open interest, suggesting room for further liquidations. Gold prices fell another 4.3% from October 27 to 30, while Brent crude rose a further 3.7%. Options markets also began to reflect bearish sentiment: gold’s three-month implied volatility increased, and the 25-delta put-call skew rose to the 85th percentile of its range over the past year, indicating increased downside hedging and bearish bets.

Bernstein Sees OpenAI Compute Spending Reaching $614 Billion Before 2030
Bernstein Sees OpenAI Compute Spending Reaching $614 Billion Before 2030
Bernstein analyst Mark Moerdler said OpenAI’s announced computing-power purchase commitments could translate into about $614 billion in infrastructure spending by the end of 2030. According to Sina Finance, that is below the widely cited estimate of $750 billion; Bernstein said investors may be overstating OpenAI’s near-term funding pressure and that direct risks to Microsoft, Oracle, and Amazon are relatively limited. Bernstein’s estimate assumes all confirmed contracts proceed as planned. Data-center delays, project cancellations, and flexibility in hardware purchases could reduce or defer some spending. Costs would accrue as data centers enter service rather than becoming payment obligations immediately. The firm expects OpenAI’s annual infrastructure spending to peak at $184 billion in 2031. OpenAI’s agreement with Oracle involves about $300 billion in computing capacity, expected to be delivered in phases over five to six years. OpenAI accounts for less than half of Oracle’s remaining performance obligations. OpenAI has also committed to purchasing about $250 billion in Azure cloud services from Microsoft, with capacity to be provided in stages over six years. Its agreement with Amazon totals about $138 billion over seven to eight years and includes computing capacity related to Trainium AI chips. The agreement with CoreWeave has a ceiling of $22.4 billion, but that amount does not represent guaranteed revenue. Bernstein said OpenAI’s revenue growth could help fund some of its expanding computing needs. As of September this year, its annualized revenue was reportedly close to $50 billion, up 77% year over year. As computing supply constraints ease, industry risks could shift toward excess capacity. Specialist computing-rental companies that finance data-center construction at high cost and lack stable, long-term customers may face greater operating pressure.
