EU to Invest 200 Million Euros in Greenland to Strengthen Ties

The European Union will invest 200 million euros in Greenland as part of efforts to strengthen ties with the region. According to Sina Finance, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the funding during a two-day visit to Nuuk, Greenland's capital. The visit was intended to show support for the Danish semi-autonomous territory. The funds will be used to develop critical minerals, renewable energy, and satellite communications. At a news conference with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Greenlandic leader Jens-Frederik Nielsen, von der Leyen said Greenland had made a clear choice to strengthen its ties with the EU. She added that Europe had also made a very clear choice to play a bigger role and invest more in Greenland and the Arctic region. Von der Leyen said the Arctic has become one of the regions where geopolitical plates are colliding, adding that what happens there has direct implications for the EU.
