Trump Administration Seeks Supreme Court Review Of USPS Mail-In Ballot Rule

According to CNBC, President Donald Trump's administration asked the Supreme Court on Thursday to let it enforce a new U.S. Postal Service rule that tightens mail-in ballot delivery standards after a judge temporarily blocked the regulation ahead of November's midterm elections. The Justice Department asked the court to lift Boston-based U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani's order, which had paused the rule for 14 days after she found it likely violated the U.S. Constitution and would be difficult for states to implement before the election. The USPS rule would require states to provide lists of mail ballot recipients and use agency-approved ballot envelopes with unique barcodes, and the postal service could refuse to deliver ballots that do not meet the standards. The administration said the policy is intended to protect the mails from being used to commit voter fraud.
