U.S. Bitcoin Holdings Significantly Lower Than Estimated, Documents Reveal

According to BlockBeats, documents obtained by independent cryptocurrency journalist L0la L33tz through the Freedom of Information Act indicate that the U.S. Marshals Service holds significantly fewer bitcoins than previously believed. The Department of Justice disclosed in a response letter that as of March, the agency held only 28,988 bitcoins, valued at approximately $3.4 billion at current prices. This figure contrasts sharply with other market data sources: Arkham Intelligence estimates that various U.S. government departments collectively hold nearly $25 billion in cryptocurrency assets. Meanwhile, Bitcoin Treasuries data suggests the U.S. government should possess 198,012 BTC, roughly equivalent to $25 billion. Senator Cynthia Lummis, a prominent advocate for strategic bitcoin reserves, expressed her concerns on social media, stating, "It's shocking to hear reports that the U.S. has sold over 80% of its bitcoin reserves, leaving only about 29,000.
