Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix Hire Former South Korean Finance Ministry Officials

Samsung Electronics hired former Ministry of Economy and Finance foreign exchange policy chief Lee Hee-keun last month as an executive on its IR team. According to ChainCatcher, Lee previously held posts including foreign exchange policy chief and capital markets policy chief and was involved in South Korea’s inclusion in the World Government Bond Index in April, where he received special recognition. SK Hynix hired former Ministry of Economy and Finance strategic economy chief Jung Yeo-jin last month as a vice president under its communications division. According to ChainCatcher, Jung previously served in roles including climate and environment budget chief, secretary to the deputy prime minister for economy, foreign exchange policy chief, and foreign exchange funds chief. The two companies are also advancing U.S. manufacturing investments. Samsung Electronics plans to invest $37 billion to build a foundry plant in Taylor, Texas, while SK Hynix plans to invest $4 billion to build an advanced packaging plant in Indiana.
