Meta is testing external compute leasing, according to a recent research report from Everbright Securities. According to Odaily, the report said Meta’s underlying rationale for moving into cloud computing is to create new monetization channels for its large AI infrastructure investments. The report added that cloud computing is viewed as a relatively fast and clear way to recoup substantial upfront spending and improve current returns, and that external monetization capability has become a cash-flow support for Meta to continue expanding AI investment. The report said Meta’s overall medium- to long-term plan to keep increasing AI computing capacity has not changed.
