Tencent to Introduce AI Agent in WeChat, Compliance Approval Pending

Tencent is set to launch an embedded AI agent within WeChat, according to a report by the Financial Times. Sources familiar with the matter revealed that Tencent is currently testing a prototype of this AI agent, which is designed to assist users with various tasks within the WeChat platform. The company plans to initiate the necessary compliance approval process as early as this month. Once compliance checks are completed, Tencent will conduct a limited external user gray test before gradually rolling out the feature in phases. The official launch date has not yet been determined. A person who has seen an early demonstration of the product mentioned that users can access the AI agent's chat window by swiping right on the main WeChat interface. Insiders have indicated that Tencent has prioritized this project as a top strategic initiative, with management focusing on refining details. However, the large-scale rollout faces challenges due to insufficient computing power supply. Initial internal estimates suggest that the project will require significant investment, and it remains uncertain whether it will generate enough revenue in the short term to cover costs.
