Japan's 40-Year Government Bond Auction Sees Strong Demand Amid Middle East Conflict

Despite inflation concerns triggered by the Middle East conflict, Japan's 40-year government bond auction experienced strong demand, with higher yields attracting investors. According to Jin10, the auction conducted by Japan's Ministry of Finance on Wednesday recorded a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.70, surpassing the previous auction's 2.54 and the 12-month average of 2.47. The winning yield for this bond was 3.84%, higher than the previous auction's 3.6%. The latest yield on Japan's 40-year government bonds stands at 4.09%, below the historical high of 4.355% set earlier this month. Meanwhile, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi stated that the government would fund the supplementary budget without increasing the calendar year's bond issuance, easing market concerns over supply pressure. Japan's Finance Minister Satuki Katayama also announced the allocation of approximately $3.2 billion from this fiscal year's reserve funds to subsidize utility expenses.
