Former OpenAI Researcher Increases Investment in Bitcoin Mining and AI Infrastructure

Former OpenAI researcher Leopold Aschenbrenner has significantly increased his disclosed investment from $5.5 billion to $13.67 billion as of March 31, 2026. According to ChainCatcher, Aschenbrenner has heavily invested in stocks of Bitcoin mining companies and AI infrastructure firms. His major holdings include mining companies such as IREN, Core Scientific, Riot Platforms, CleanSpark, Bitfarms, Bitdeer, and Hive Digital, betting on their power resources and data center capabilities benefiting from the growing demand for AI computing power. In addition, Aschenbrenner has established a short position in the semiconductor sector, amounting to approximately $7.46 billion. This includes significant put option positions against the VanEck Semiconductor ETF, NVIDIA, Oracle, and Broadcom.
