UN Reports Rising Food Prices Amid Energy Costs and Middle East Conflict

The cereal price index saw a month-on-month increase of 0.8% and a year-on-year rise of 0.4%. The FAO analysis suggests that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East is prompting farmers to cultivate crops that require less fertilizer, leading to a reduction in wheat planting areas in 2026, which is expected to further elevate wheat prices. The FAO has slightly lowered its global wheat production forecast for 2026, anticipating a decrease of approximately 2% compared to last year's output.
