The official said that starting several hours earlier, multiple written statements labeled as coming from the IRGC had spread on social media, but none were released by the IRGC. Separately, U.S. Central Command said in a statement on June 26 local time that its forces carried out strikes against Iran that day. In the early hours of June 27, the Iranian Students News Agency reported that the IRGC said its navy and air force had thwarted a U.S. attack on Sirik Island and forced the attacking forces to retreat, describing the action as defending Iran’s sovereignty over its territory and waters.
