According to ChainCatcher, the chain forked from Bitcoin on August 8, and its native token BTCB2 has been labeled by some trading platforms as Bitcoin BLAKE2b, Bitcoin BIP-110, or XBT. BTCB2 has fallen 84% from its September high of $1,799 and was trading at about $270 to $315 in recent hours. Developer Luke Dashjr said some BLAKE2b mining pools are “attacking” the network. After the fork, the chain kept Bitcoin’s difficulty setting and mined only about 8 blocks in the first 22 days before resuming operations through BLAKE2b hashing and difficulty adjustments. The chain is not listed by most trading platforms or by CoinGecko and CoinMarketCap, while Neoxa has said it will support the upcoming soft fork.

Berachain users allege a lead developer is secretly selling BERA tokens, contributing to the token's sharp decline. The project’s opaque staking model and private investors holding over 35% of the supply have heightened fears of centralisation.
