DRW founder and CEO Don Wilson raised six core questions about Hyperliquid, including information priority and position transparency. According to ChainCatcher, his comments came as the parent of the New York Stock Exchange considers bringing the decentralized perpetual futures platform to the U.S. market.
Wilson asked what advantages on-chain perpetual futures trading on a regulated exchange would offer. He said on-chain trading can reduce friction in trustless markets without identity checks, or allow buyers to receive purchased assets instantly through atomic transactions. But he noted that perpetual futures are not assets, so the latter benefit would not apply. Wilson also named Stan Druckenmiller and asked whether he understood that positions and trades on Hyperliquid can be tracked in real time, and whether he considered that an advantage.
Wilson questioned whether Hyperliquid’s priority-fee mechanism—which lets participants pay to see information earlier or move their orders ahead in the queue—aligns with the CFTC’s core principles. He also asked whether offshore and U.S.-based order-book liquidity could be combined and, if not, whether listing perpetual futures on a regulated exchange with a traditional centralized order book would be preferable to the inefficiencies of on-chain matching.
Intercontinental Exchange and trade[XYZ] previously announced plans to use Hyperliquid infrastructure to establish perpetual futures markets for crypto assets, stocks, commodities, foreign exchange and other real-world assets for U.S. traders, subject to regulatory approval. ICE would operate the regulated market and clearing structure. Wilson said the CFTC Chair Selig and the U.S. President Donald Trump administration should be credited with making such experiments possible, adding that markets would determine whether the arrangement was useful.
