Lib Dems Vow To End 'Computer Says No' Economy To Boost Growth

Liberal Democrat deputy leader Daisy Cooper unveiled a 30-page growth plan at the party conference in Brighton, saying the UK’s economy is being held back by a “computer says no” approach, according to BBC. She said the plan would remove barriers to business, create a digital one-stop shop for tax, regulatory, legal and Companies House services, and set up a new Department for Growth to simplify red tape. Cooper also proposed a Growth and Defence Partnership with the EU, saying deeper ties with Europe could reverse what she called £90bn a year in lost tax revenue from Brexit. She said the Lib Dems would pursue deals on the single market, a customs union and defence, and argued the party would avoid Labour tax rises and Conservative or Reform UK spending cuts.
