Solana Shortens Target Block Time to 250 Milliseconds Under SIMD-0525 Plan

Solana reduced its target block slot time from 300 milliseconds to 250 milliseconds on Friday, increasing block production frequency by nearly 17%. According to Odaily, the change reduces the computing resources and data available in each slot, while the network’s overall transaction processing capacity remains unchanged. The adjustment is the third of four planned phases in the SIMD-0525 proposal. The validator block-production window across four consecutive slots has been cut from 1.2 seconds to 1 second, and the expected duration of a fixed 432,000-slot epoch has been shortened from about 36 hours to about 30 hours. The next phase would further reduce slot time to 200 milliseconds, but no mainnet launch date has been set. Its implementation depends on block skip rates remaining stable.
