Former NYC Deputy Mayor Edward Skyler Reflects on 9/11 Aftermath

Edward Skyler said it was extremely difficult to make decisions after 9/11, when 2,700 people were murdered and New York was filled with grief, anxiety and political tension, according to Bloomberg. He said smoke was still rising from the World Trade Center site when Mayor Bloomberg was sworn in on 01/01/2002, after the economic damage had already been done. Skyler said city leaders had to listen to all sides and make a plan that served New York’s best interests, even if it disappointed some people, and said those decisions have stood the test of time.
