Samsung Says iOS User Switches to Galaxy Z Fold8 Series Rose 1.6 Times as Apple Enters Foldables

According to CNBC, Samsung Electronics said the share of iOS users switching to its latest Galaxy Z Fold8 series was 1.6 times that of the previous-generation Galaxy Z Fold7 and Flip7 after the lineup launched in July. In the U.S., 30% of Galaxy Z Flip8 buyers switched from competing smartphone brands, with most buying a foldable phone for the first time, the company said. Samsung also said Galaxy Z Fold8 shoppers were drawn to the thin and light design and inner display for multitasking and viewing content, while Fold8 Ultra shoppers favored the larger screen and extra working space without needing a separate tablet. Apple unveiled its first foldable iPhone at a Wednesday launch event, marking one of its first major product introductions under new CEO John Ternus. Samsung recently upgraded its Smart Switch feature so iPhone users can transfer data to a Galaxy device wirelessly by scanning a QR code without installing the app on their iPhone. Counterpoint Research said Samsung is projected to lead the global foldable smartphone market with a 32% share this year, while Apple is expected to take 25% as it enters the segment and Huawei remains a strong player in China.
