El Nino Disrupts Peru's Fishing Industry, Lifting Global Fishmeal and Fish Oil Prices

According to Jin10, the El Nino phenomenon continues to affect Peru's offshore waters, with unusually high sea temperatures changing the distribution and survival environment of anchovies and dealing a clear blow to Peru's traditional fishing industry. As a major global producer of fishmeal and fish oil, Peru's changing anchovy supply is affecting local fishing companies and fishermen while pushing up prices for related products in international markets. Anchovy catches have fallen sharply, lifting global prices for fishmeal, fish oil, and related products. In May, Peru's super-prime fishmeal FOB price reached $2,500 per ton, compared with about $1,400 in the same period of 2025, an increase of about 79% year on year, while feed-grade fish oil prices reached $4,100 per ton, up 64% year on year.
