A16z Crypto said blockchain throughput has increased more than 100-fold over the past five years, with some production systems now able to process tens of thousands of transactions per second. According to ChainCatcher, the firm said throughput alone does not determine when transactions finalize, and financial markets need predictability, including guarantees against censorship and clear ordering rules so transactions settle on time under rules participants can understand in advance.
The article said resilience means no single operator controls access. According to ChainCatcher, a16z researchers introduced the concept of Strong Chain Quality, which reserves block space so valid transactions have multiple paths to enter the chain. It also said ordering rules must be explicit, such as priority-fee or venue-based rules, to reduce MEV and support fair price-time priority. In addition, the article said execution privacy before settlement should be achieved through cryptography, hiding intent until final inclusion while keeping markets auditable without real-time previews of unexecuted orders.
