STOCKS | U.S. July Wholesale Inventories Rise 1.3%, Fastest Pace in Nearly Four Months

U.S. wholesale inventories at the end of July rose 1.3% from the previous month to $959.084 billion, the fastest pace since March 2026. According to Sina Finance, the U.S. Census Bureau said the preliminary reading was well above the market consensus of 0.1%. The July figure was up about $12.7 billion from the revised June level of $946.411 billion, while year-over-year growth came in at 5.7%. Durable goods wholesale inventories rose 1.2% to $597.719 billion, and nondurable goods inventories increased 1.6% to $361.365 billion after falling 0.4% in June. On an unadjusted basis, wholesale inventories stood at $950.544 billion at the end of July, up 1.5% from the previous month. Retail inventories also increased 0.7% to $838.457 billion, while total seasonally adjusted nominal inventories for wholesale and retail trade were about $1.798 trillion at the end of July. The report said the wholesale inventory data are nominal preliminary estimates and do not include monthly wholesale sales or the inventory-to-sales ratio. The Bureau of Economic Analysis will use manufacturing, wholesale, and retail data when calculating private inventory investment in third-quarter real GDP, and the Census Bureau will release the full Monthly Wholesale Trade Report on September 10.
