Counterpoint Research said the global pure-play foundry semiconductor market grew 29% year on year in the second quarter, driven mainly by surging demand for AI chips. According to Sina Finance, the report said AI-related orders and capacity reallocation remained the main drivers of supply-demand imbalances in advanced and mature process nodes.
TSMC kept its market lead in the second quarter with a 73% share, ranking first for a second straight quarter. According to Sina Finance, Counterpoint Research said TSMC's strong performance was mainly supported by mass production of 2-nanometer chips, expanded 3-nanometer capacity, and supply shortages in mature 8-inch and 12-inch processes as well as advanced packaging.
Samsung Electronics remained in second place, with its market share broadly unchanged from the previous quarter. According to Sina Finance, the report said Samsung's main goal remained improving the yield of its SF2 process, while higher wafer prices in the first half and demand for SF4 and SF5 were also key factors behind revenue growth.
