According to the BBC, Rockstar Games released a 26-minute preview of Grand Theft Auto 6, giving fans their first detailed look at the long-awaited title after more than 18 months since the last official glimpse. The extended look debuted on Netflix six hours before going live on YouTube and showed improved graphics, detailed environments, car chases and shoot-outs.
The preview focused on protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Camino, whose relationship sits at the center of the game’s story. Developers said in a preview published by IGN that the pair’s storyline can be affected by player actions, although players can opt out of developing their bond. The footage also showed players switching control between the two characters at different points.
Fans praised the visuals, with the game’s photorealistic faces, lifelike movement and detailed locations drawing strong reaction online. The preview also showed the fictional Florida-inspired state of Leonida, along with armed heists, criminal underworld scenes, satirical references to US culture and optional side activities. Rockstar said GTA 6 will launch as a single-player experience, while the company has not yet given news on any online mode.
The game is due to launch on 19 November. Rockstar also said next month it is due to appear at an employment tribunal in Scotland over claims it illegally sacked a group of former employees who tried to form a union; the company denies the accusations and says they were dismissed for gross misconduct.
