CNBC survey finds 49% of Americans oppose U.S. stakes in companies

According to CNBC, about half of Americans said it is not appropriate for the U.S. government to take ownership stakes in U.S.-based companies, while 19% said it is appropriate and 32% were undecided. The All-America Economic Survey found 66% of Democrats viewed such equity stakes as inappropriate, compared with 34% of Republicans, and self-identified MAGA Republicans split evenly at 31% for and 31% against, with 38% expressing no opinion. The poll was conducted July 8-12 among 1,000 registered voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points. The results come as the Trump administration has negotiated 30 deals worth nearly $27 billion in total, according to the Council on Foreign Relations, and has discussed a potential government stake in OpenAI when the company goes public. The survey also noted that the U.S. government took a 10% stake in Intel in August, and that the initial $8.9 billion stake had grown 372% to a value of $42 billion as of Thursday's close.
