Egypt’s football federation criticized what it called “controversial and influential refereeing incidents” and the use of VAR after Egypt lost 3-2 to defending champions Argentina, according to Yahoo Sports. Lionel Messi had an assist on Argentina’s first goal and scored its second as Argentina struck twice in five minutes after the 79th minute, then added a stoppage-time winner.
The Egyptian FA pointed to a VAR review in the 59th minute of Tuesday’s match in which an Egypt goal was disallowed after contact was reviewed on the other side of the pitch. Egypt coach Hossam Hassan also complained after the match, calling the outcome “rigged,” the report said.
