Ethlabs said it operates as a nonprofit to focus on Ethereum’s long-term development as a “public product” and to maintain independence and neutrality in its research and building work. According to Odaily, the organization made the comments in a post on X addressing its nonprofit positioning and funding situation.
Ethlabs said its funding comes from large ETH holders and Ethereum ecosystem builders. It added that these funders will not receive any governance control and will not participate in roadmap development or decisions on project priorities.
The organization said this arrangement was designed to prevent external funding from influencing its core direction.
Ethlabs also said its ongoing fundraising mechanism serves as an accountability measure, stating that continued funding depends on creating real value for the Ethereum ecosystem.
On funding status, Ethlabs said it is in the final stage of fundraising and has not disclosed the amount. It said committed funds are expected to support operations for two to three years and cover hiring needs for top talent. Ethlabs added that it is positioned as a long-term project rather than a one-time grant program.
