Bittensor Launches Major Conviction Upgrade on Mainnet

Bittensor has implemented its Conviction upgrade on the mainnet, marking the most significant update since the Dynamic TAO, according to Foresight News. This upgrade introduces an on-chain token locking mechanism, allowing users to lock alpha tokens to a designated hotkey. The system generates a 'conviction' score based on the duration and amount of tokens locked, with higher scores indicating greater influence. The conviction score will play a crucial role in determining control during future subnet ownership contests. Any individual with the support of at least 10% of alpha token holders can initiate a challenge, with the higher conviction score securing subnet control. Currently, this feature is not active, serving primarily as a signaling mechanism. Subnet owners can choose whether to integrate it, with no risk of forced takeover. Token locking is available in two modes: decay locking, which unlocks 50% in three months and approximately 95% in 12 months, and permanent locking.
