The Ethereum Foundation said security firm ChainSecurity recently found that certain invariants used by some projects could stop holding after the Glamsterdam upgrade. According to Odaily, the risks involve EIP-8037 and EIP-8038, which change gas fees for some operations and state gas accounting. The All Core Developers meeting decided to delay the hard fork and not start the fork on the Hoodi testnet until the issues are resolved. The foundation said it is reviewing the changes with several audit firms and conducting an internal audit, but cannot cover every project’s on-chain and off-chain code. The foundation urged contract developers and auditors to check whether their projects rely on the eight invariants. It has created a dedicated GitHub repository with explanations, examples and prompts for projects to assess potential effects and possible specification changes.

The Ethereum Foundation has urged contract developers and auditors to check whether their projects rely on eight gas-cost assumptions that will no longer hold after changes under Glamsterdam. According to Foresight News, EIP-8037 and EIP-8038 will alter gas charging, and the Foundation has published a code repository with explanations, examples, and prompts for reviewing the assumptions. Affected projects can contact the team by email; the Foundation is working with several auditing firms and conducting internal reviews, but says it cannot cover every project or all on-chain and off-chain code on Ethereum. The Foundation previously announced on October 23 that Glamsterdam’s activation on the Hoodi testnet would be postponed, with a new date yet to be determined. On October 26, Foundation researcher Toni Wahrstätter said the delay followed a ChainSecurity report identifying issues with EIP-8037’s interactions with some contracts, and that the scope of the impact had since become largely clear.
