Trump Media Ends Crypto.com Ventures As CRO Treasury Plans Unravel
Trump Media and Technology Group has pulled out of two planned ventures with Crypto.com, ending a proposed publicly traded company designed to build a large reserve of Crypto.com’s CRO token and ending Crypto.com’s role in planned Truth.Fi exchange-traded funds.
The two companies said the agreements were mutually terminated as they reassess their strategies in a weaker crypto market and amid changing priorities among their businesses and stakeholders.
CRO Treasury Company Deal Falls Apart
The biggest project to be abandoned was Trump Media Group CRO Strategy Inc., which was intended to become a publicly traded digital asset treasury company focused on accumulating CRO, the native token of the Cronos ecosystem.
Trump Media, Crypto.com and Yorkville Acquisition Corp. announced the proposed transaction in August 2025.
The structure would have transformed Yorkville into a CRO-focused treasury vehicle, allowing the new company to build a large digital asset reserve through the public markets.
Crypto.com said the plans were terminated because of “prevailing market conditions and shifting business and stakeholder priorities”.
Crypto.com chief executive Kris Marszalek said:
“After analysing these proposed ETFs and DAT from every angle, we’ve reached the same conclusion: moving forward under current market conditions doesn’t make sense. We will continue to pursue other ETF opportunities.”
CRO fell after the announcement and was down about 4% late Friday.
Truth.Fi ETF Partnership Also Ends
The companies are also ending Crypto.com’s involvement in Yorkville’s planned exchange-traded funds under Trump Media’s Truth.Fi financial-services brand.
The partnership had covered several proposed investment products, including cryptocurrency ETFs.
Crypto.com will no longer service those ETF plans, but Yorkville America said its existing and planned ETF business will continue.
The move removes another major part of the relationship between Trump Media and Crypto.com, which had expanded quickly during 2025 as Trump Media increased its involvement in digital assets.
Trump Media Still Holds More Than $600 Million In Bitcoin
Despite ending the CRO treasury project, Trump Media has not abandoned cryptocurrency.
Wallets linked to the company recently transferred 2,628 bitcoin to Crypto.com in two transactions, according to onchain data.
Trump Media said the bitcoin was transferred but not sold.
The company holds more than $600 million worth of bitcoin and ranks as the 14th-largest publicly traded corporate bitcoin treasury, according to BitcoinTreasuries data cited in the report.
The distinction gives a clearer picture of Trump Media’s current crypto strategy: the company is stepping away from two Crypto.com-linked projects while retaining a substantial bitcoin position.
Crypto Strategy Shifts As Bitcoin And Token Treasury Deals Lose Momentum
The cancellations come as the market environment becomes less favourable for companies seeking to build large digital asset reserves through publicly traded vehicles.
Bitcoin has fallen by nearly half from its 2025 peak to around $63,000, while investor enthusiasm for stock-market companies built around token holdings has weakened.
For Crypto.com, the termination removes a proposed public company that could have become a major corporate holder of CRO.
For Trump Media, it leaves the company with fewer ties to Crypto.com and greater flexibility over how it manages its digital asset holdings and future partnerships.
The companies had also discussed distributing a crypto-based rewards token to Trump Media shareholders with Crypto.com’s help, adding to the broader relationship that has now been scaled back.
