A recent analysis by research firm SemiAnalysis reveals that Anthropic is reshaping the AI commercialization landscape with profitability and growth rates far exceeding its competitors. Leveraging its high-margin business model centered on APIs, Anthropic has become a leader in the B2B AI market.
According to a deep-dive report released by SemiAnalysis, Anthropic is projected to achieve $1 billion in GAAP EBIT in the third quarter of 2026, corresponding to a profit margin of approximately 6%. Meanwhile, its annual recurring revenue (ARR) has surged from $9 billion at the end of 2025 to over $60 billion currently. The firm predicts that if Anthropic maintains a net increase in ARR (NNARR) of approximately $15 billion per month, its ARR could reach $300 billion by the end of 2027, corresponding to a company value of $6 trillion, making it the world's most valuable company.
Anthropic secretly filed for an IPO on June 1st. SemiAnalysis believes that going public at this time is strategically urgent—Alphabet has completed an $84.75 billion equity financing round, and Meta is rumored to have plans for tens of billions of dollars in financing, meaning the capital market window is narrowing. The report points out that Anthropic's superior financial data and business model mean it should go public before OpenAI to gain the upper hand in the capital competition.

Claude Code Ignites B2B Market, ARR More Than Doubles in a Single Quarter
Anthropic's performance turning point stems from the explosive popularity of Claude Code. SemiAnalysis data shows that Claude Code currently accounts for more than 7% of all code commits on GitHub, directly driving the company's monthly ARR to jump from $3 billion in January to $11 billion in March in the first quarter.

In terms of revenue structure, Anthropic and OpenAI show a significant divergence. Approximately 75% to 85% of Anthropic's ARR comes from its usage-based API business, while consumer subscriptions account for only 5% of total ARR. In contrast, OpenAI will still derive over 65% of its revenue from subscription models in Q1 2026, with consumer ARR accounting for approximately 40%.

SemiAnalysis points out that the core advantage of the API model lies in the unlimited revenue cap per user—as the same customer adopts more Agentic Workflows, their token consumption and corresponding revenue will continue to grow, achieving expansion without adding new customers. Anthropic CFO Krishna Rao disclosed in a podcast in May that the company's Net Revenue Retention Rate (NRR) is as high as 500%, meaning that of the customers who contributed $30 billion in ARR in the first quarter, these customers only contributed $2 billion a year ago. Gross Margin Advantage Creates a Compounding Flywheel, OpenAI's Gap is Significant. The difference in business models is directly reflected in gross margins. SemiAnalysis estimates that Anthropic's current overall gross margin has risen to the mid-range of 60%, while this figure will be -94% in 2024. Among them, the API business has a gross margin exceeding 80%. The core driver of the significant improvement in gross margin is the increased inference efficiency. Measured by ARR per megawatt of computing power, Anthropic's figure is expected to reach $60 million later this year, compared to only $16 million nine months ago. Since the cost of inference computing power is essentially fixed, the profit margin approaches 100% when the amount of tokens processed per unit of computing power or the token price increases. The report estimates that if both Anthropic and OpenAI reach a $100 billion ARR, OpenAI's gross profit will be approximately $25 billion less than Anthropic's, given that it needs to support over 900 million free users (SemiAnalysis estimates a monthly service cost of approximately $0.70 per user). This gap will directly impact their ability to reinvest in training next-generation models. SemiAnalysis introduces "Earnings Before Training Interest and Taxes" (EBTIT) as a core metric for measuring the lab's reinvestment capabilities. Anthropic's EBTIT margin reached 36% in Q2 2026. The report predicts that by 2028, Anthropic's cumulative EBTIT will exceed OpenAI's by $250 billion. Beyond programming, cybersecurity may become the next growth engine. SemiAnalysis estimates that over 65% of current lab ARR comes from programming-related use cases, with programming tool startups such as Cursor, Cognition, Loveable, and Replit contributing approximately $6 billion in ARR. Meta is Anthropic's largest single customer, but its share remains between 3% and 5%. The report believes that cybersecurity will be the next explosive vertical sector after programming, and predicts that the release of Fable's new model will further improve token pricing and expand application scenarios, driving monthly NNARR to surpass the current level of $10 billion per month in the second half of 2026. Healthcare, finance, and biotechnology are also listed as potential major areas for TAM expansion. In terms of distribution channels, the "Token as a Service" (TaaS) model, which involves indirect sales through hyperscale cloud platforms such as AWS Bedrock and Azure Foundry, is growing rapidly and currently accounts for 15% to 20% of Anthropic's ARR, compared to only 5% to 10% a quarter ago. SemiAnalysis believes that paying 20% to 30% of revenue to hyperscale cloud platforms remains economically reasonable from the perspective of efficiency in reaching enterprise customers and ease of compliance. The biggest variable is the bottleneck in computing power; the IPO provides a channel for financing. The core constraint on Anthropic's growth prospects comes from the supply of computing power. SemiAnalysis predicts that by 2030, Anthropic and OpenAI's combined unconstrained computing power demand will exceed 100 gigawatts (GW), while the net increase in computing power in 2025 and 2026 will only be 2.5 GW and 5 GW, respectively. Currently, the two companies' combined available computing power is only slightly over 6 GW. This supply-demand gap is precisely what gives the IPO its clear strategic significance. The report points out that the funds raised from the IPO will be mainly used to fill the ever-widening computing power demand gap between inference operations and new model training, and to lock in computing resources in advance at a more favorable financing cost. The report also mentions that Meta is considering leasing computing power to external parties (the news comes from market rumors on July 1, 2026), and expects Anthropic to purchase incremental computing power from such trusted suppliers. SemiAnalysis also lists key risk factors, including: OpenAI's rumored price reduction plans, competitive pressure from Google DeepMind and Meta on programming models, potential government regulatory restrictions on the release of cutting-edge models, and the dilutive effect of rising TaaS revenue on overall gross margin. The report explicitly states that if regulatory frameworks hinder model releases and narrow the capability gap between open-source and cutting-edge proprietary models, it will fundamentally weaken Anthropic's commercial moat.
