Robinhood launched its Ethereum layer-2 network to power the future of tokenized real-world assets, but its first major success has instead come from a viral meme coin that turned an $85 bet into more than $2 million.
CashCat has emerged as the hottest token on the newly launched Robinhood Chain, underscoring how speculative trading has rapidly become the network's biggest source of activity despite the company's broader ambitions for institutional-grade tokenized finance.
One trader, whose Ethereum wallet begins with "0xeEE2," bought around 17.4 million CashCat tokens for just 0.05 ETH, worth about $85, on June 18, weeks before Robinhood officially launched the network's public mainnet.
CashCat frenzy fuels Robinhood Chain activity
Just over three weeks later, the position had grown to more than $2.3 million after CashCat surged to a market capitalization exceeding $138 million. At its peak above $142 million, the trader's holdings briefly approached $2.5 million, representing gains of nearly 3 million%.
The investor has since begun locking in profits, selling roughly 4 million CashCat tokens for about $585,000, according to on-chain data from DEXScreener. Even after those sales, the wallet still holds approximately 12.3 million CashCat tokens valued at around $1.6 million.
CashCat's explosive rally has coincided with a sharp rotation away from other high-profile meme coins. Solana-based token The Black Bull (ANSEM), which had surged more than 190,000% over the previous two weeks, has since fallen more than 37% from its peak as traders shifted liquidity toward Robinhood Chain.
The momentum has been amplified by Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev, who acknowledged the growing meme coin activity on X, saying that while Robinhood Chain was built to become "the best chain for real-world assets," it "works great for memes too."
Speculation arrives before Robinhood's RWA vision
The rapid rise of CashCat highlights how traders have embraced Robinhood Chain as the crypto market's newest speculative playground, even as Robinhood positions the network as infrastructure for tokenized stocks, real-world assets and other traditional financial products.
Data from DEXScreener shows at least two other Robinhood Chain meme coins have already entered the platform's top 20 tokens by 24-hour trading volume, suggesting speculative trading is driving much of the network's early adoption.
The contrast illustrates a familiar pattern across the crypto industry: while blockchain developers often launch networks with long-term infrastructure ambitions, traders frequently determine a chain's early identity. For Robinhood Chain, that first defining moment has come not through tokenized finance, but through a meme coin that transformed an $85 investment into a multimillion-dollar windfall in just a matter of weeks.
