Immutable Targets Mainstream Gaming Adoption

Immutable, a pioneering crypto gaming firm, recently declared its initiative to abolish transaction fees for players on its forthcoming Immutable zkEVM network. This bold move is anticipated to revolutionize the accessibility and appeal of blockchain games, particularly among mainstream gamers. Immutable's innovative strategy involves allowing game developers to bear the transaction costs, commonly known as "gas fees," on behalf of the players.

This development emanates from Immutable's unique Ethereum scaling network, specifically tailored for gaming, which was unveiled in March. The network's key feature enables games to activate a function where the developers cover the gas fees. Such an approach is predicted to lower entry barriers for players, encouraging them to explore new games and potentially accelerating the widespread adoption of blockchain gaming.

Michael Powell, Immutable's Product Marketing Lead, emphasized the necessity for blockchain games to resonate with mainstream players. He highlighted the importance of eliminating gas fees, a norm in the blockchain sphere that conventional gamers often find unacceptable. Powell elaborated, "To truly captivate all gamers, Web3 games need to deliver a user experience that is both familiar and seamless. It's crucial to integrate blockchain elements in a way that feels natural and unobtrusive to the user."

The upcoming Immutable Passport, a universal gamer profile system, is a cornerstone of this initiative. Players using this system will be exempt from gas fees for games where developers choose to sponsor these costs. In a striking move, Immutable has committed to sponsoring gas fees for all games for a limited period following the launch of the zkEVM mainnet early next year.

Game developers can participate by depositing funds into a specialized smart contract wallet. This arrangement ensures that the fees incurred by Passport users are covered automatically, remaining invisible to the players. Immutable is confident that the cost to game studios will be minimal compared to the potential benefits.

The overarching goal of Immutable zkEVM and Passport is to distance players from the concept of gas fees, encouraging studios to view these costs as part of their infrastructure expenses. Immutable anticipates that this strategy will lead to smoother player onboarding and enhanced transaction conversion rates.

Over 200 games are already committed to developing within Immutable's ecosystem. Exciting titles like Shardbound, MetalCore, and Space Nation are poised to launch on the Immutable zkEVM network, heralding a new era in blockchain gaming.
