BTC advocate Samson Mow, who recently analyzed the evolving Crypto asset landscape, expressed skepticism about politicians' growing support for digital assets.
Mow warned that this "temporary" change could cause some problems in the future if the basic characteristics of BTC and other Crypto assets are confused.
One of Mow's main concerns is that many politicians fail to distinguish between BTC and other Crypto assets.
He emphasized that BTC is decentralized, permissionless, and censorship-resistant, unlike many other digital currency projects. Different Crypto assets may have different characteristics and risk profiles.
Mow said: "I am not optimistic about politicians supporting 'Crypto assets'. While this may feel good relative to the previous hostile anti-Crypto stance, it is not good for BTC in the long run."
"If there is strong confidence in BTC, then this shift will only pave the way for the next FTX/Luna/Genesis, and we will pay the price again."
Essentially, Mow is suggesting that lumping these projects into the category of "Crypto assets" may lead to misguided policy decisions and regulatory frameworks that fail to address the special nature of BTC.
In addition, Mow also stressed the importance of developing BTC-specific regulations that recognize the unique attributes and potential benefits of BTC.
Mow said: "Treating BTC like other Crypto assets could stifle innovation and hinder the development of this transformative technology."
Mow recently emphasized that BTC is not just "another Crypto asset", but also a new monetary system that has the potential to completely change the way we think about money and finance. We need to develop corresponding regulations for the uniqueness of BTC to ensure its sustainable development.
Despite such concerns, Mow acknowledges the potential for positive developments in the BTC space, such as growing support for BTC from some policymakers and increasing adoption by institutional investors.
However, Mow also cautions that there are challenges ahead, particularly in terms of regulatory clarity and consumer protection.
Some analysts believe that we need to strike a balance between promoting innovation and protecting consumers.
