Apple and Google are recruiting candidates with expertise in stablecoins and tokenized deposits for finance and payments-related roles, indicating that both companies are evaluating financial infrastructure and new business opportunities related to digital assets. On August 26, Apple posted a job opening in the US for the position of "Head of Financial Product Strategy for Apple Pay." This role is responsible for developing the company's medium- to long-term strategy for financial services (including Apple Card and Apple Cash) and identifying new business opportunities. Apple prioritizes candidates with knowledge of stablecoins, tokenized deposits, and blockchain technology. Successful candidates will collaborate with the Apple Card and Apple Cash product teams to evaluate new growth areas and drive related business strategies. This team manages financial services related to Apple Pay, including consumer credit cards, peer-to-peer transfers, and prepaid balance services. Google has posted job openings for institutional clients seeking a digital asset infrastructure solution. The "Chief Web3 Architect" position, located in Hong Kong, will support Google Cloud's Web3 and digital asset business in the Asia-Pacific region. Google prioritizes candidates with expertise in real-world asset tokenization, stablecoin payment networks, tokenized deposits, and digital asset custody, while also requiring experience with institutional-grade digital asset systems, including multi-party computation (MPC), hardware security modules (HSM), and transaction signature architectures. The target clients for this position include blockchain protocol foundations, institutional exchanges, digital asset custody firms, and financial companies focused on real-world asset tokenization. In addition, this position also involves helping to design a security and compliance framework that aligns with local regulatory requirements, including those of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the Securities and Futures Commission. The two companies appear to be focusing on different business areas for stablecoins. Apple seems to be exploring how to apply this technology to consumer financial services such as Apple Pay, Apple Card, and Apple Cash; while Google is more focused on providing cloud and infrastructure services to financial institutions and digital asset companies. Previously, Samsung Electronics' US division had recruited a business development manager for its Samsung Wallet payment business, listing stablecoins alongside card issuers and fintech companies as potential payment partners. Following Samsung, Apple and Google have also signaled their intention to develop stablecoins and tokenized deposits for future financial and payment businesses, while simultaneously building relevant expertise.
