DeFi type projects were attacked 113 times, about 67.6%, which is the most frequently attacked project type. In 2022, a total of 20 public chains had major security incidents. The top three in terms of loss amount were Ethereum, BNB Chain, and Solana; the top three in terms of the number of attack incidents were BNB Chain, Ethereum, and Solana. Vulnerability exploitation is the most frequent and costly attack method throughout the year. In 2022, there will be 87 attacks involving vulnerability exploitation, with a total loss of $1.458 billion. Of the 167 major attacks detected in 2022, audited and unaudited projects were almost evenly split, 51.5 percent and 48.5 percent, respectively. According to Beosin KYT virtual asset anti-money laundering compliance and analysis platform monitoring, about 1.396 billion US dollars of stolen funds will be transferred to Tornado Cash in 2022, accounting for 38.7% of all funds lost in attacks. About $289 million in stolen funds was recovered for the year, accounting for just 8% of all losses.
