The European Central Bank plans to launch a digital euro in the second half of 2026.

European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde said on Thursday that preparations for a digital euro are complete and the country is awaiting further approval from government agencies, with a launch expected in the second half of 2026. The ECB views the digital euro as a strategic financial instrument. Lagarde stated, "Our goal is to ensure that in the digital age, there is a currency that can serve as a cornerstone of the stability of the financial system."
