Poland's Crypto Regulation Debate Intensifies Amid EU Oversight Concerns

The bill, known as Bill 2050, was presented by Polska2050, a member of the ruling coalition in Poland's Sejm, just days after Nawrocki vetoed a similar proposal. Despite claims from supporters like Adam Gomoła that the new bill is an "improved" version of the vetoed Bill 1424, government spokesman Adam Szłapka stated that "not even a comma" had been altered. The controversy surrounding Poland's crypto legislation unfolds as the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) is being implemented across member states, with a compliance deadline set for July 2026. Critics argue that Bill 2050 is essentially a replica of the original Bill 1424, aiming to establish the Polish Financial Supervision Authority as the primary regulator for the country's crypto asset market. Polish politician Tomasz Mentzen has criticized the previous bill as "118 pages of overregulation," especially when compared to shorter versions in other EU countries like Hungary and Romania. Mentzen expressed his disapproval on social media, mocking Tusk's assertion that the president's veto was linked to alleged "Russian mafia" involvement, and sarcastically remarked that "the bill is perfect, and anyone who thinks otherwise is funded by Putin."
