The Ministry of Energy of British Columbia, Canada, issued a statement stating that the province will suspend new electricity requests from crypto mining companies for at least the next 18 months, with pending requests for 21 mining projects requiring a total of 1,403 MW of power. Electricity, enough to power more than 500,000 homes, will not be affected in addition to seven existing mining projects and six projects in later stages of planning. The total electricity consumption for mining in the province is currently 273 MW, and the move aims to protect power supply, reduce carbon emissions, and create jobs and economic opportunities.
