Bitcoin network transaction volume falls to lowest level since October 2023

Due to low transaction activity, some miners began looking for transactions with fees lower than the default relay threshold of Bitcoin Core (1 sat/vB). Mononaut pointed out that one of their transactions was submitted to Bitcoin mining company MARA (formerly Marathon Digital), which publicly operates a non-standard low-fee transaction channel called Slipstream. On June 6, 31 Bitcoin Core developers jointly signed an open letter opposing nodes filtering low-fee or non-standard transactions, emphasizing the essential attributes of Bitcoin as an anti-censorship system. Developers pointed out that forcing users to use private channels such as Slipstream will undermine the decentralized nature.
