Laser Digital, the encryption subsidiary of Nomura Holdings, will launch a dedicated cryptocurrency trading platform in the first quarter of 2023. The business will include high-frequency trading, market making and proprietary trading to cater to institutional clients, family offices, high-net-worth individuals and hedge fund demand. Laser Digital plans to grow its team to 55 people over the next three months. Laser Digital was established in September 2022, and CEO Jez Mohideen joined Nomura Holdings in February 2018 as Chief Digital Officer, responsible for identifying digital opportunities for wholesale banking. At the end of September, Jez Mohideen shifted his focus entirely to Laser Digital.
