Elon Musk announced plans to charge a small fee to new X platform users to enable its posting feature and curb the problem of bot accounts.
Elon Musk pointed out that current artificial intelligence and "troll farms" can easily bypass traditional tools such as captchas, so he believes that charging new users is the only way to stop bot attacks. He also mentioned that if new users have not paid for three months after creating their accounts, they will be able to post information for free.
Last October, X platform already implemented a $1 fee policy for new unverified users in New Zealand and the Philippines. These users can read posts but cannot interact with them unless they pay.
Now, Elon Musk is considering expanding this fee policy to other regions. In addition, X platform began a large-scale spam account cleanup this month and warned users that their follower counts may be affected.
