In a court filing on Thursday, lawyers claimed that Binance founder CZ “does not pose a flight risk” and should be allowed to return to the UAE for now. The partially redacted filing rebuts a recent U.S. Justice Department filing arguing that CZ should not have left the country ahead of his sentencing in February after pleading guilty to a charge of violating the Bank Secrecy Act.
CZ’s lawyer argued that by coming to the United States to plead guilty, CZ had proven that he would not be a flight risk. The document states that the magistrate judge in charge of the case, Brian Tsuchida, agreed with this view and found that CZ's appearance was convincing. (CoinDesk)
It was previously reported that the U.S. Department of Justice asked Judge Richard A. Jones to review CZ’s decision to leave the country and order CZ to stay in the United States. Under the terms of the current bail agreement, CZ can leave the United States because he has deposited $15 million in a trust account, signed a $175 million personal recognizance bond and found a surety to provide additional funds.
