The European Data Protection Board and the European Data Protection Supervisory Authority have issued a joint statement on regulating the digital euro in line with the European Commission’s July 2023 proposal. The regulator has made a number of recommendations to improve personal data protection standards in a digital euro.
The authorities "strongly recommend" establishing a "privacy threshold" for online transactions, below which offline and online small-value transactions are not subject to anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism tracking. However, they did not give a specific amount, only mentioning transaction limits covering "daily small transactions." (Cointelegraph)
