According to CNBC, Dan Ives, a partner and senior managing director at Yorkville Ives & Co., characterized the technology stock sell-off as a buying opportunity comparable to declines during Covid in March 2020 and the April 2025 tariff sell-off. The Nasdaq Composite fell 5.5% on Thursday, entering correction territory and posting its worst single-day performance since April 4, 2025, when it dropped 5.82% after President Donald Trump unveiled his tariff policy. Ives said the election results could delay peak Big Tech capital expenditure growth until 2027, rather than 2028 or 2029, but would not stop the AI buildout. He estimated AI-related capital expenditures would total $3 trillion to $4 trillion over the next few years, with Big Tech companies allocating more than $1 trillion to AI in 2027. He also said most data centers planned for the next 18 months would still be built, including projects in Texas.
