According to ChainCatcher citing Business Insider, Thinking Machines Lab, the artificial intelligence company founded by former OpenAI Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati, is seeking to raise $5 billion at a $40 billion pre-money valuation, citing people familiar with the matter. The company raised $2 billion in a seed round at a valuation above $10 billion early last year, while subsequent talks for a fundraising round at a $50 billion valuation broke down.
Thinking Machines Lab has also released Inkling 2 Small, its second-generation model. The model uses a mixture-of-experts architecture with 594 billion total parameters and 17 billion active parameters, and underwent four stages of pretraining followed by nine days of joint reinforcement training. The lab said it outperformed its previous model on analytical intelligence and improved in coding, vision, knowledge work, and reasoning. It plans to release the model’s weights under the Apache 2.0 license next week.
