Bitcoin miner TeraWulf disclosed that Google agreed to support Anthropic’s lease obligations for a data center project in Kentucky. According to Foresight News, CoinDesk reported that the 20-year lease is valued at about $19 billion and covers 401 megawatts of capacity, with the arrangement intended to help secure financing for the project.
If Anthropic defaults on rent or becomes insolvent, Google could take over as tenant. Under certain conditions, Google could instead pay a termination fee in exchange for equity in Raylan Data, the TeraWulf subsidiary operating the project; its stake would be calculated based on the fee’s share of the project’s total development and construction costs. The equity arrangement applies to the project subsidiary, not publicly traded TeraWulf itself.
Project deliveries are expected to begin in late 2027 and continue through the second quarter of 2028.
